Our newborns and early toddlers are inquisitive and just want to learn more. As parents, we help them out by starting out with peek-a-boo, tickling in different spots, and similar little games to get a reaction or a smile a little chuckle or a “coo”.
In those early weeks, our newborn is trying to be active by attempting to roll onto their side, or simply move around. As the neck muscles strengthen place your baby on their front, this will get your little one attempting to move, although not very far, and possibly initially with some frustration. This is all part of the development phase where they are building up their strength and starting to look around and focus on objects, the more colorful the better. As well as gaining strength and coordination these actions also tire them out, so early on after a short time, your baby will be exhausted and want to sleep. This sleep is also very good as they sleep well after this exertion
This shows us just how vital these playful interactions are for our new additions. Start with toys that create a sound, especially items they can focus on. Babies just like different sounds and bright colorful objects that move or swirl, or a combination of both
Starting at around 6 months they begin to recognize people and are interested in interactive games which accelerate their learning skills. At this stage, if objects get dropped and are out of site, they start to understand that it still exists, and will often crane their neck to see what happened and to try and get sight of it again
So it follows that young babies and toddlers also can accelerate their learning with games designed to suit their age.
