How Many Wipes Does A Baby Use In A Year

I live in the Bay Area, and I’ve been a member of several mom clubs ever since my first baby Alice was born. Just like you, I’ve comes across first-time moms asking a common question: How many wipes does a baby use in a year?

How Many Wipes Does A Baby Use In A Year Comparison Table

Age Of The Baby Diaper Usage Per Day Diaper Usage In One Month
0 to 1-month-old baby 10 to 12 diapers 320 diapers
1 to 5 months old baby  8 to 10 diapers 240 diapers
5 to 9 months old baby  Eight diapers 240 diapers
9 to 12 months old baby  8 diapers 240 diapers

How many wipes does a baby use in a year? 320 + 960 + 960 + 720 = 2,960

To get a precise estimate on the number of wipes your baby will use in a year, there are things you should first take into considerations. In the first few months, you will change diapers more frequently, and hence you’ll require more wipes. As your baby grows older, he’ll poop less often, and hence you’ll use fewer wipes in a day.

How many diapers does a baby need in a day?

To answer the question of how many wipes does a baby use in a year, it’s important to get to know how frequently your baby soils diapers. If your baby is less than a month old, you will need 6-10 diaper changes in a day. At this age, a newborn will pee after every feed and have bowel movements 3-4 times in a day.

If your baby is over one month old, you will notice some drastic changes in bowel movements and notice that you’ll only need 4-6 diapers per day. However, if your baby is exclusively breastfeeding, well you will change more diapers than a formula fed baby.

How many baby wipes per month?

In the first month after your baby is born, you will need an average of 320 wipes. Your baby will poop frequently, and diaper changes will average between 10-12 diapers in a day translating to 10-12 baby wipes.

From the chart above, assuming that you’ll only use one wipe per diaper change, you’ll only need to add up the numbers on the right column to get the total number of wipes you will need in a year. If you want to use fewer wipes, you may like to consider not to wipe the baby bum if it is only pee as the absorbent diaper may have already done its job

Baby Wipes Cause Rash

As it is convenient to use baby wipes to clean poop during diaper changes, do note that sometimes it may cause rashes due to irritation to the skin. (Source) In this kind of situation, you may like to consider using a soft cloth and warm water to clean the baby bum.

What are the best baby wipes?

Now that you’ve known the number of wipes you should you will need in a day, a month and most importantly a year, let me list some of my recommended babies wipes even for those with sensitive skin.

1. Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes

(Popular among US hospitals)

Pampers is a brand that has been around for many years and has established its credibility. They will only cost you around 2-3 cents per wipe. The wipes are soft, thick, mild on the skin and scented and you will only need one or two to replace a messy soiled diaper and one to change a wet diaper. You can wipe and fold and wipe again. They are 20% thicker compared to Pampers Natural Clean wipes.

2. Huggies Natural Care Wipes

These cost only 2 cents per wipe and are similar to the Pampers Sensitive wipes. They contain 99% and are treated with vitamin E and Aloe water making them ideal for use on sensitive skin and keep a child’s skin healthy. These wipes are paraben-free, alcohol-free and fragrance-free.

3. Bloom Baby Wipes

You will be spending approximately 7 cents per wipe. While the brand is relatively new to the market, these wipes are one of the best baby wipes for newborns. They are soft, durable, smell great and larger (an inch wider than common wipes). They are 98% natural and don’t contain harsh chemicals you’ll find in some other wipes like ammonium, alcohol, sodium sulfate, or chlorine) but still have the best antimicrobial benefits. They are ideal and a great pick for babies with sensitive skins.

The number of baby wipes you will use in a year can be roughly estimated and will also depend on a variety of factors. If your baby is on formula, you might use fewer wipes and diapers compared to a breastfed baby. These are my thoughts and overview of the wipes you can potentially stock and use.
